Postgraduate Opportunities at Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT)
(UTM International Campus, Kuala Lumpur)

MJIIT is recruiting suitable dynamic candidates for postgraduate studies to be attached at Centre of Lipids Engineering & Applied Research (CLEAR) UTM International Campus

CLEAR laboratory in UTM International Campus (IC), Kuala Lumpur is one of the “associate ikohza” of MJIIT  (http://www.mjiit.utm.my).  As one of the ikohzas (research group), CLEAR UTM IC will receive some financial assistance for its research activities. MJIIT is a faculty under UTM that has 22 Japanese Consortium Universities supporting it.

Masters and PhD by Research in MJIIT
CLEAR UTM IC, is recruiting potential students to support the research activities in their research projects. Students will be registered as postgraduates of MJIIT.
MJIIT scholarships are available for excellent Post Graduate students; RM1800/mth for Masters and RM2800/mth for PhD students
Students will have the opportunity to be attached in Japanese laboratories  for a period of 6 mths to one year for part of the research activities, everything paid for (only for Malaysian students). The students when in Japan will receive allowances for living expenses and air fare travel to and fro KL-Japan.
Some projects will be jointly supervised with Japanese professors from the consortium universities.
Fees  for PG by research in MJIIT; Malaysian RM6 000/yr, international students RM11 000/yr. Fees will be waived for sponsored students

Current Projects in CLEAR, KL :
  • Development of Green Packaging for Export of Malaysian Fruits –  collaborators, Malaysian Agricultural Research & Development Institute (MARDI) , Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT)
  • Green Process for Ginger Oil and Ginger Oleoresin Extraction – collaborators, Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)
  • Rice Bran Extracts Using Subcritical Water – collaborators, MARDI & UKM
  • Fundamental studies of Continuous Subcritical Water Extraction (CSWE) Mechanism and Equilibrium Properties for Zingiber Officinalecollaborators, MARDI, UKM & Kyushu University
  • Near Infrared Spectroscopy for Non Destructive Analysis of the Eurycoma Longifolia
  • Transdermal delivery of Kacip Fatimah (Labisia Pumila)

Postgraduate Researcher ( PhD and Master )
(Kuala Lumpur)
Responsibilities:

  • The work will be closely supervised by project leaders :
  • To work in a team responsibly
  • Plan, execute, and finalize research project according to strict deadlines
  • Acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members from various institutions
  • Ensure scheduled project timelines and milestones are met
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations
  • Support all of CLEAR’s activities and assist other projects where necessary
  • As a sponsored MJIIT student, some minimal academic assistance such as laboratory supervision, marking of laboratory reports and accompanying undergraduate students for field trips are required 

Eligibility for MJIIT Scholarships
  • Minimum academic qualification a degree in Chemical or Industrial Chemistry, Biochemical Engineering and related fields (CGPA>=3.5 at undergraduate studies). Priorities will be given to  Malaysian
  • PhD candidates are required to indicate their referees (preferably their previous Masters supervisors) :
  • Strong written and oral communication skills esp English.
  • Computer literate e.g. MS Office and MS Excel.
  • Fees will be waived for MJIIT scholars
  • Scholarships eligibility is up to 3 yrs subject to annual evaluation on performance

  • Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor's Degree, Post Graduate Diploma, Professional Degree, Master's Degree, Engineering (Bioengineering/Biomedical), Engineering (Chemical), Engineering (Petroleum/Oil/Gas), BioTechnology, Chemistry or equivalent.

Other topics under collaboration discussions include palm oil processing technology and sustainability. Potential students may wish to make appointment for further discussions. Immediate commencement as research officers (salary between RM1800-RM2000/mth), whilst waiting for offer letter as postgraduate students.
